![]() Jasco Games (Streetfighter: The Miniatures Game, UFS) continues their domination of the PvP fighting game genre with yet another elder stateman of arcade fighting games. It’s another video game adaptation, but this one has a slightly longer pedigree. The Imperial Machines of the capital must work in an uneasy, asymmetric alliance with their human subjects to defend the city from invaders while the humans attempt to escape the city and the iron rule of their machine masters. But new, strange machines have begun to boil out of Edinburgh and are laying siege to Clockwork City. In this version of the Victorian age, steam-powered machines have developed consciousness and taken control of London, renaming it Clockwork City. Alley Cat Games, using the alternate 19th world created by artist Nicholas Maxson-Francombe, hopes to join the ranks of these art-inspired greats in 2023 with their tower defense game, Welded Iron. Pole art is about creativity and storytelling with more emphasis on emotional resonance than a display of strength. The first emphasizes tricks and technique with minimal choreography. The three main branches of pole are pole sport, pole art and exotic pole. The beauty of pole is it can be a tool to grow in different directions, and the practice caters to people of all tastes. And while some studios and classes absolutely emphasize unlocking one’s inner sexiness and sensuality, many classes more closely resemble a gymnastic or fitness class. When most people think of pole dance, their first thought would be the strip club. “Curiosity brought me in, confidence and community kept me,” explained an instructor at the Secret who uses the stage name Kam Poles. I can only imagine how terrible I looked, because I was too embarrassed to record myself. With all the grace of a newborn antelope, I stumbled around the pole, trying to hit the foreign-feeling moves on time and feeling betrayed by my lack of mind-body connection. I took my first class in July 2021 with Celina Huang at BeSpun. I tried to figure out a fun way to sneak in the workouts and decided to try a pole dance class on a whim. In many of the most popular stories about wishing, three wishes are granted. They remind readers that wanting something beyond what they already have may not make them happier. And many stories about wishing carry a cautionary note. More interestingly, they are also a way of characters exposing their innermost thoughts and feelings so they betray psychological truths without storytellers having to give any justification or explanation.īut, once a wish has been made, how it is granted can also show that what can seem perfect in the imagination may not be so wonderful after all. “If only…” can be turned into a reality that can appear to be very attractive the land can be full of plenty and human nature can always be kind. The album’s rough-hewn quality is less of an asset on a ballad like “Turned 21” or a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window.” “Some Kind of Hero” is a meaty slice of the blues on the evergreen topic of a cheatin’ woman, but the lyrical bravado is laced with British self-deprecation: “I wish I was some kind of hero.” Songs like “Keep it Out of Sight” and “All Through the City” have a swaggering energy and raw yearning. Daltrey growls lustily over Johnson’s choppy riffs and it’s spiced with lashings of dirty harmonica from Steve Weston and galumphing piano from ex-Style Council keyboardist Mick Talbot. The title track sets the tone of robust, rocking R&B. Recorded in a week with producer Dave Eringa and Johnson’s touring band, its 11 tracks include 10 Johnson compositions, from the Feelgood days through his solo career.
